Cost

Flat, or low-slope roofs, have a higher cost than most steep-slope roofs. Low-slope roofing systems are designed and constructed to be watertight whereas steep-sloped roofing systems are merely water-shedding. Materials, tools, and equipment for low-sloped roofing generally are more expensive than those used in steep-slope roofs.

Durability

Because low-sloped roofs are in a “water static” condition, leaks tend to be amplified as compared to steep-slope systems. Low-sloped roofs typically have a shorter lifespan compared to pitched roofs. Low-sloped roofing systems can last anywhere from 10 to 20 years or even longer, depending on the type and quality of the system.
